In a recent address to her congregation at Covenant Nations Church, Patience Museveni Rwabwogo recounted a distressing financial challenge her family faced, nearly leading to the auction of their home due to unpaid mortgage.
Patience Rwabwogo, daughter of President Museveni, revealed that their family’s home was at risk of foreclosure more than 18 years ago when financial difficulties caused delays in mortgage payments. Despite their high-profile status, they struggled with accumulating interest and the looming threat of losing their property.
Ms. Rwabwogo shared that their income from business ventures had become strained, resulting in a backlog of mortgage payments. The situation intensified when they received a serious warning letter from the bank. “We were paying the loan with our income from our businesses, and at some point, we had some struggles,” Ms. Rwabwogo explained. “We got behind in the mortgage, and the interest started piling up.”
“The bank warned us that if we didn’t pay the interest and bring our account up to date within seven days, they would start advertising our house for auction,” Patience Museveni Rwabwogo said, describing the fear and uncertainty the threat of foreclosure brought.
In response, Ms. Rwabwogo turned to her faith for comfort and guidance. She recounted bringing the bank’s letter to her place of prayer, pleading with God over the dire situation. “I told the Lord, ‘Look at what the bank is saying. They’re going to auction our home,’” she recalled, expressing her deep anxiety.
During this crisis, Ms. Rwabwogo felt a strong sense of divine direction. Instead of focusing on their financial issues, she believed she was instructed to invest their remaining funds into making new cupboards for their home. “God told me, ‘Go and make some new cupboards,’” she explained.
Despite her initial confusion and concern that they might not have a home to put the cupboards in, she followed the guidance, which she saw as an act of faith. “Even though it seemed crazy, I felt that God was assuring me, ‘Don’t be afraid. You will live in this house for a long time,’” she said.
Remarkably, shortly after following this guidance, the family managed to secure the necessary funds to pay off their debt. “By God’s grace, we found a way to get the money we needed,” Rwabwogo shared, noting that they not only settled the arrears but also fully paid off the mortgage.
