Unknown attackers reportedly used an explosive device, likely dynamite, to damage the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The attack, which occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday at the APP office on the GRA axis, resulted in shattered windows, broken doors, and significant destruction of party property.
This incident comes amid speculation that Governor Siminalayi Fubara might be preparing to join the APP with his supporters. This follows allegations that his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The attack is thought to be connected to the ongoing political conflict between the supporters of the Governor and the Minister.
A party representative reported, “I was informed of the attack around 3 a.m. today. It is evident that this is politically motivated. The APP is rapidly gaining influence in the state. We urge the authorities to investigate this incident and bring those responsible to justice.”
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to release a statement on the attack.
