A boat carrying at least 65 migrants, mostly from Pakistan, capsized off the coast of Libya near the port of Marsa Dela, northwest of Zawiya, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed on Monday.
Pakistan’s Embassy in Tripoli has dispatched a team to Zawiya hospital to assist in identifying the victims and is working with Libyan authorities to determine the nationalities of those on board.
This tragedy follows a similar incident in January 2025, when a boat carrying 86 migrants, including 66 Pakistanis, capsized near Morocco. In that case, only 36 people were rescued, while 50 lost their lives.
