President Duma Boko announced a sweeping new governmental structure today, aimed at fostering Botswana’s unique national vision, unbound by global ideological labels. Boko’s administration introduced six new ministries as part of a broader transformation, emphasizing a tailored approach to development for Botswana’s specific needs.
“Our country will not be confined by socialism, capitalism, or communism,” Boko declared. “We will create solutions unique to Botswana’s context.” As part of the changes, Boko appointed leaders to helm new and reorganized ministries, inviting citizens to engage actively in the national mission.
Among the high-profile appointees is Ms. Lesego Chombo, Botswana’s reigning Miss World Africa, who steps into her new role as Minister of Youth and Gender. President Boko stressed that youth and gender issues must transcend mere dialogue, charging Chombo to lead with action-oriented policies.
In an effort to amplify Botswana’s presence on the global stage, Dr. Phenyo Butale has been named Minister of International Relations, a move aimed at deepening Botswana’s diplomatic engagements.
Recognizing the critical role of education, Dr. Nono Kgafela-Mokoka has been appointed Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education. “Our schools must feel like places made for our children,” Boko emphasized, underscoring the government’s commitment to child-centered learning environments.
The health sector has also seen a significant leadership appointment, with Dr. Stephen Modise taking on the role of Minister of Health, supported by Deputy Minister Mr. Lawrence Ookeditse of the Botswana Patriotic Front. The duo will work collaboratively on achieving Botswana’s National Health Insurance (NHI) ambitions.
The new cabinet also includes Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe as Minister of Finance, where he will oversee Botswana’s financial strategy. In a nod to agricultural sustainability, Dr. Micus Chimbombi assumes the post of Minister of Lands and Agriculture, with Dr. Edwin Dikoloti, an Independent Candidate, serving as his deputy.
This comprehensive governmental reform marks the beginning of what President Boko envisions as a transformative era for Botswana, focused on solutions uniquely tailored to the nation’s aspirations and challenges.
