Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, officially announced the launch of the People’s Progressive Revolution (RPP) on April 1st during a ceremony at the Koulouba Palace. The declaration, made at the national flag-raising event, marks a significant turning point for the country and calls on all citizens to actively contribute to its development.
President Traoré described the movement as a continuation of the ideals of the 1983 People’s Democratic Revolution led by Captain Thomas Sankara. The new revolution, he stated, aims to reclaim and safeguard national territory while also strengthening sovereignty and driving economic and social progress.
In his address, Traoré stressed the importance of national unity and urged all Burkinabè citizens to make sacrifices for the country’s advancement. He acknowledged the strides made in national security but emphasized the need for continued mobilization to ensure the revolution’s success.
The President also issued a strong warning against both internal and external adversaries, condemning those who, he claimed, seek to destabilize the country by reviving divisions linked to the 1987 coup that led to Sankara’s assassination. “We will show no mercy,” he declared, vowing to counter any attempts at subversion or disinformation, particularly those influenced by foreign interests.
On the subject of governance, Traoré challenged the conventional notion of democracy, asserting that Burkina Faso is not operating within a traditional democratic model but rather in a phase of revolutionary transformation. He argued that democracy is a long-term goal rather than an immediate starting point, emphasizing that maintaining order and discipline is essential for meaningful reforms.
He also cautioned against opportunists and traitors who might try to derail the movement, affirming that the Burkinabè people’s determination would overcome any resistance. “Our revolution will move forward, no matter the cost,” he insisted.
The RPP’s objectives include modernizing infrastructure, enhancing education and healthcare, promoting industrial development, and expanding the national road network. However, securing Burkina Faso’s territory remains the administration’s foremost priority.
As the revolution takes shape, President Traoré called on all citizens to embrace its principles and actively participate in its implementation, emphasizing that success depends on collective effort and commitment.
