AFCON Group Stage Week 4 Begins: Burkina Faso Secures First Qualifying Spot
The Burkina Faso national team secured their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a victory against Burundi, becoming the first team to guarantee qualification.
After winning the first match 4-1, Burkina Faso achieved a solid 2-0 win away from home. With stars like Edmond Tapsoba and Dango Ouattara, Burkina Faso once again proved that their unbeaten streak in the tournament is no coincidence.
In the 5th minute, Mohamed Konate found the back of the net following an assist from Cedric Badolo, giving his team an early lead. In injury time, midfielder Bertrand Traore converted a penalty in the 90+2 minute, sealing the victory. The only downside for Burkina Faso was the injury of Abdoul Kade Ouattara during the match.
The only obstacle to Burkina Faso’s group leadership now is Senegal. If Senegal wins against Malawi tomorrow, the race for first place will continue. Should that scenario unfold, Malawi and Burundi will be eliminated from the tournament.
