The airport in the capital city of Chad, N’Djamena and Amdjarass Airport are our legitimate targets and we will retaliate against the UAE, a senior Sudanese military official said, adding that airports in neighboring Chad will be recognized as military targets because the military equipment the UAE supports the RSF with is unloaded there, accusing the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the war in Sudan.
General Yasir al-Atta, Sudan’s deputy army chief and a member of the Supreme Council of Sudan, made the remarks at a funeral in Gadaref, eastern Sudan for military media officer Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Ibrahim.
The Sudanese military said in a statement in December last year that the UAE had provided RSF with drones equipped with guided missiles and that attacks had been launched from inside Chad against Sudanese forces and their local allies.
El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state near the Chad-Sudan border, military installations north of Omdurman, and energy facilities in northern and central Sudan, have been repeatedly targeted by Chinese-made “Long Wang 2” strategic aircraft, according to Sudanese officials. The aircraft, which were sold to the RSF by the UAE, have caused casualties among the Sudanese military.
“We will take retaliatory action against the UAE, the RSF-supported facilities in South Sudan, and against Mohamed Kaka, the President of Chad,” al-Atta said. “We declare that the airports of N’Djamena and Amdjarass are legitimate targets for the Sudanese Armed Forces.”
Al-Atta added: “Our words are not a joke. We know what we are saying, and we are not talking nonsense.” He stressed that his remarks were not intended to stir up emotions at a funeral but rather a real commitment that they will fulfill.
Gen. Al-Atta said the troops would soon achieve military victory, vowing to destroy what he called the “Janjaweed” mercenaries, and to pursue and defeat what he described as the “Arab diaspora” attacking Sudan and its people.
“We will pursue anyone from West Africa, South Sudan and Libya who opposes our nation, as well as the main sponsor of the war, which is the UAE, led by Mohammed bin Zayed, the Arab devil” General Al-Atta stressed, speaking harshly to those he described as “the enemies of Sudan.”
Sudanese military and government officials have repeatedly accused the UAE of providing military support to the RSF, which has been fighting the Sudanese army since April 2023, and the has been facing growing military pressure in recent months.
Sudan has previously complained to the United Nations Security Council and the International Court of Justice about the UAE’s alleged role in the genocide of the Masalit ethnic group in the West Darfur region. The conflict in Sudan, now nearing its second year next month, has displaced many Sudanese and caused widespread destruction of property and death.
