Chad’s Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) has claimed a decisive victory in the country’s recent legislative elections, securing 124 out of 188 parliamentary seats, according to final results announced by the Constitutional Council on Tuesday.
The outcome strengthens the position of the ruling party and signals a significant shift in Chad’s political landscape. In a statement following the results, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno described the victory as an important milestone in the nation’s political transition. He emphasized that the country is now moving from a transitional phase to a focus on long-term development.
“We are entering a new era where we must work together to build a prosperous future for Chad,” said President Deby. He also praised the peaceful and orderly nature in which the elections were carried out.
The election results also reflected progress toward gender equality, with women now holding 34.04 percent of parliamentary seats. Amina Priscille Longoh, the country’s Minister of Women and Child Protection, noted that 64 women have secured seats in the new parliament, a sharp increase from the previous legislature in 2011, which saw women hold only 15 percent of seats.
“This marks significant progress in ensuring equal representation of women in governance,” Longoh stated.
With this victory, the Patriotic Salvation Movement solidifies its control over the legislature and looks ahead to shaping the nation’s future development.
