According to local media, a Chinese company and South Sudan’s state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet) inked an agreement on Friday to build a state-of-the-art oil refinery and storage facilities in South Sudan.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Wu Song, President of Shengli Oilfield Keer Engineering and Construction corporation (SOKEC), and Muhammad Lino Benjamin, Managing Director of Nilepet. This agreement will allow the Chinese corporation to start making investments in South Sudan.
Benjamin praised SOKEC for its role in South Sudan’s progress.
At the signing event in Juba, he stated, “We hope you will be able to translate this Memorandum of Understanding into agreements and projects that we will do together.” According to Wu, SOKEC would invest without holding back in order to improve operational effectiveness and production capacity.
He declared, “We will get to work on the refinery and storage facilities as soon as possible.”
Monday marked the start of a two-day visit by a high-level team from the Chinese company to the oil fields in Tharjiath, Unity State, with the aim of evaluating the refinery’s present state of operations and inspecting the infrastructure.
