In commemoration of World Children’s Day, the 16th Chinese Medical Team in Namibia organized a free health checkup event at the Frans Nambinga Arts and Training Center, located in Havana, one of Windhoek’s most populous informal settlements.
World Children’s Day, observed globally every November 20th, aims to promote international solidarity and raise awareness about children’s rights and welfare. This year’s theme, “Listen to the Future,” emphasizes the importance of hearing and responding to the needs of the younger generation.
At the event, the Chinese medical team conducted various health assessments, including spine examinations, and provided health advice to children and youth. The team also educated the children on proper hygiene practices, particularly the importance of handwashing to prevent the spread of diseases.
“It’s a very meaningful event,” said Huang Qin, the team leader. “We hope that these children grow up healthy and happy.”
The health checkups have become a long-standing tradition at the center, having been initiated by the 14th Chinese Medical Team several years ago. Huang assured that the team would continue this essential work in the years to come.
In addition to medical care, the team distributed gifts such as food and school supplies and engaged the children in recreational activities.
Frans Nambinga, the founder of the center, expressed his gratitude, stating, “This event is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about their health, and we are thankful to the Chinese medical team for their continued support.”
