Jean-Claude Gakosso, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Congo, highlighted the need for global unity in addressing multiple crises, including climate change, debt burdens, and the threat of nuclear war.
He stressed that these challenges stem from a desire for dominance and must be eradicated to achieve peace, which he called an urgent necessity.
Gakosso praised Congo’s mediation efforts in Libya, aiming to culminate in a reconciliation charter and democratic elections.
He also called for a reformed United Nations Security Council that includes permanent African representation with veto power, arguing that Africa deserves a rightful place in global governance.
On climate change, he emphasized immediate action, particularly through reforestation, as part of Congo’s broader strategy.
Gakosso urged the U.S. to end its blockade on Cuba, citing the suffering it has caused, and expressed hope for a peaceful, war-free world that addresses poverty, a key source of frustration and violence in developing nations.
