The Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC), Congo’s national oil company, has joined forces with the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) to modernize the CORAF refinery, a significant asset in the Republic of Congo’s energy sector. The partnership was formalized through a contract signed by SOCAR Downstream Management, a subsidiary of SOCAR, and SNPC during the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2024 conference in Cape Town.
This modernization project aims to increase the refinery’s capacity and enhance the quality of its products, ensuring compliance with updated environmental standards. Through improved operations and best practices, the initiative seeks to bolster energy security and refining efficiency across the sub-region.
Drawing on SOCAR’s expertise from its recent upgrade of the Heydar Aliyev Refinery in Baku, the collaboration demonstrates both companies’ commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions. Key areas of focus include plant simulation, linear programming, raw water conditioning, power generation optimization, hydrocracker compressor enhancements, as well as support in operational management and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
