Last season’s champions, Gor Mahia, who have had a rough start this year, are now facing criticism from their fans.
Currently in 10th place with three games in hand, even if they win all those matches, the former champions can barely make it into the top three.
Out of the five matches they’ve played, they have only managed to secure 8 points. While they initially made a strong start to the league, they have dropped points in their last three games.
In their recent 2-1 loss to Stars last week, security forces had to protect them from angry fans. Then, on Saturday, after a 2-2 draw with Murang’a Seal, fans stormed the pitch to protest.
However, there is a much-anticipated match that Kenyan football fans are looking forward to: the derby on November 24 against AFC Leopards. Both teams are referred to as Mashemeji, which makes this matchup a derby clash.
Despite the tense atmosphere, Gor Mahia’s head coach, Leonardo Neiva, is confident his team will secure a good result in this challenging match and said he isn’t panicking.
He also expressed that the support from fans provides them with extra strength. Both teams’ fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming match.
Coach Neiva shared his thoughts on the match and the team’s recent struggles:
“I do not have any restless nights before a game. I appreciate the significance of this match to our title aspirations and what it means to both sides. However, we are approaching it like any other fixture in the competition,” he said.
“We know that AFC Leopards is a strong team, but we have prepared well for this match. Our team is highly motivated and focused on achieving a positive result.”
“It’s always important to keep a cool head during a match. We have to focus on our game plan and execute it perfectly. Passion and emotions can sometimes cloud your judgment, so we have to remain focused and professional,” he added.
“We are confident our players will deliver their best and give us the result we need.”
“In a game such as this, the fans are extremely important. Their enthusiasm and support inspire the players to perform at their highest level. It is a blessing to have such passionate and dedicated supporters,” Neiva concluded.
