A drone strike reportedly occurred in the Mecha district of North Gojjam on Sunday, resulting in the injury of two women, according to regional Ethiopian news sources. The strike was said to be near Bahir Dar, the capital of the Amhara region.
The Ethiopian government has not yet commented on the reported drone strike. In a recent interview, Defense Chief of Staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula downplayed the frequency of drone operations by government forces, stating that they are not widely used.
Clashes between the Fano militia and government forces have intensified across various areas following the government’s declaration of a “final military operation,” which included the deployment of an additional 40,000 troops.
According to local reports, up to 30 skirmishes were happening simultaneously in the Gojjam region, with Fano forces implementing road closures as a tactic to disrupt government military movements.
Fano representatives claim that they have made substantial gains in the recent engagements, asserting that the government’s offensive will face challenges similar to previous efforts.
In his interview, FM Berhanu Jula expressed confidence that the “campaign will be concluded this year,” although he also mentioned, “We will continue fighting even if it takes years,” adding an element of uncertainty to the timeline.
