Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a digital infrastructure provider across Africa, has announced an investment of 1 billion rand in expanding internet access to underserved regions of South Africa.
This investment has significantly expanded the fibre infrastructure in the country’s Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces.
In the Eastern Cape, where internet access has been limited, the company secured a R900 million loan to enhance connectivity. This investment is part of a collaboration between Liquid, the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), and the Eastern Cape Provincial Government.
The partnership continues to provide high-speed internet to government buildings, with 2,700 buildings benefiting from the service. For 700 of these buildings, 4G and 5G LTE solutions were used, but they will be upgraded to fibre in the future.
Liquid is also building a 7,000 km fibre network in the Eastern Cape to connect municipalities and citizens, further enhancing the region’s connectivity.
In addition to this, the company has renewed its partnership with the Western Cape Provincial Government and is set to invest R2 billion to expand free public Wi-Fi hotspots across the province.
This initiative will accelerate digital transformation and improve public services, benefiting citizens through enhanced access to digital resources.
