A senior Hamas delegation, headed by Mohammed Darwish, the leader of its leadership council, has arrived in Cairo to discuss the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and a three-phase prisoner exchange process, the group announced yesterday.
The delegation includes key figures such as Khaled Meshaal, Khalil Al-Hayya, Zaher Jabarin, Nizar Awadallah, Mohammed Nasser, and Ghazi Hamad. The statement also noted that the group plans to meet with Palestinian prisoners who were released last Saturday.
As part of the ongoing agreement, Al-Qassam Brigades recently handed over four female Israeli soldiers to the International Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza. In exchange, Israel released 200 Palestinian prisoners. This marked the second stage of the prisoner exchange under the first phase of the ceasefire deal.
The current ceasefire, which began on January 19, is set to last 42 days during its initial phase. Mediation efforts, led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, aim to facilitate progress toward subsequent phases of the agreement.
