On Wednesday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Cairo, where he met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to oversee the signing of a military cooperation agreement between their countries.
Following the ceremony at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, both leaders participated in a joint press conference. President Hassan Sheikh praised the agreement as a “commitment to a future of shared defense against international terrorism, which we are fighting both domestically and globally.” He highlighted that the accord serves as a “framework for the exchange of knowledge and expertise aimed at advancing regional, continental, and global peace and security.”
President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s dedication to supporting Somalia’s territorial integrity and voiced strong opposition to “any foreign interference in its domestic affairs.” President Hassan Sheikh also expressed deep gratitude to President El-Sisi and the Egyptian people for their steadfast support of Somalia’s sovereignty.
