Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan Al Jaber, on Wednesday to discuss enhancing collaboration between the two nations. The high-level meeting aimed to bolster cooperation across key sectors, including energy, industry, and technology.
Senior officials from both countries attended the discussions, including Kamel El Wazir, Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Transport; Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy; and Walid Gamal El Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Representing the UAE were Ambassador Mariam Al Kaabi, UAE’s Ambassador to Egypt, and Omar Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.
During the talks, Prime Minister Madbouly shared updates on recent agreements, describing them as aligned with Egypt’s strategic priorities. “Today, we witnessed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding, particularly in the fields of energy and industry, which are critical for us,” he stated. Madbouly underscored the strong bonds between Egypt and the UAE, emphasizing their mutual commitment to development and progress.
Sultan Al Jaber conveyed greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and commended Egypt’s proactive approach to joint initiatives. He highlighted the importance of accelerating the implementation of these projects, describing them as the first phase of broader collaboration. Al Jaber also stressed the need for regular evaluations to ensure tangible outcomes on the ground.
Among the agreements signed was a memorandum of understanding to establish an energy storage battery factory in partnership with Emirati firms Global South Utilities and Enercap. Additionally, two agreements were finalized for solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 1.2 gigawatts and battery storage systems of 720 megawatts. These projects will involve a consortium including Masdar, Infinity, and Hassan Allam.
Madbouly also announced progress on an upcoming electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Italy, building on earlier successes with Saudi Arabia and Greece. He further revealed that production at the Zohr gas field is expected to return to pre-crisis levels by mid-2025, signaling a boost for the country’s energy sector.
The meeting marked a significant step in the growing partnership between Egypt and the UAE, highlighting their shared vision for sustainable development and regional leadership.
