Foreign Minister Abdelatty stressed that recognizing the State of Palestine based on a two-state solution is essential for achieving regional security, stability, and peace, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Cairo emphasized that resolving the Palestinian issue would significantly benefit all people in the region.
In a recent meeting, Abdelatty discussed Egypt’s view on regional developments and their impact on security and stability. He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid. Additionally, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s efforts to reduce tensions and secure a ceasefire in Lebanon, urging the Israeli army to withdraw from all Lebanese territories and respect Lebanon’s sovereignty.
He also called on Israel to ensure the safety of UN personnel in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and condemned Israel’s attacks on UNIFIL as violations of international law.
Abdelatty further emphasized the need for full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and support for Lebanese institutions, especially the Lebanese army.
On strengthening ties with the UK, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s desire to enhance bilateral relations and encouraged British companies to invest in Egypt, given the promising business environment. He and Falconer looked forward to the second session of the Egyptian-British Partnership Council to boost trade and economic cooperation.
The UK remains one of the largest investors in Egypt, with investments reaching $21 billion in 2023, and foreign direct investment inflows from the UK increasing to $2 billion in 2022/2023, according to the Central Bank of Egypt.
