On Thursday, the Egyptian armed forces firmly denied allegations of involvement in Israeli military operations following reports of a shipment of explosives arriving at an Egyptian port intended for an Israeli defense contractor. They released a statement categorically rejecting rumors circulating on social media and other questionable accounts regarding any support for Israel’s military actions.
This controversy arose when human rights lawyers filed a court appeal in Berlin on Wednesday, seeking to block a 150-metric-ton shipment of military-grade explosives aboard the German cargo ship MV Kathrin. The lawyers asserted that the shipment was destined for Elbit Systems, the largest defense contractor in Israel. According to vessel-tracking data, the MV Kathrin docked at Alexandria port in Egypt on Monday.
The army stated in a post on X that “there is no form of cooperation with Israel,” following remarks from Egypt’s Press Center, which dismissed media reports alleging that Alexandria Port had received military supplies for Israel. The Press Center characterized the reports as false, stating they were spread by “anti-country voices” aiming to undermine Egypt’s historic support for the Palestinian people and their cause.
In response to the situation, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport clarified that the ship’s arrival in Alexandria was to unload cargo for Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production. They also noted that the vessel had submitted an official request to continue its journey to Turkey.
