Egypt is coordinating with Sudan to update its Ethiopian Renaissance Dam file, aiming to renew efforts toward resolving the crisis under the incoming US administration. Egyptian officials are compiling data on damages suffered and investments made in water desalination over the last four years to present to President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
According to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, technical and political consultations between Egypt and Sudan at the ministerial level are underway, preparing for comprehensive discussions with the US. Trump’s previous mediation brought the three countries close to an agreement on the dam’s operation in early 2020, but Ethiopia refused to sign.
Egyptian sources report renewed optimism as Trump’s administration signals its intent to prioritize resolving the dispute through a balanced agreement that addresses concerns of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia. Cairo’s active role in regional crises, including the Gaza conflict, has strengthened its case for American support.
