Egypt has actively engaged with its Arab allies, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, to strengthen regional opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal regarding Gaza. Trump suggested that Palestinians be relocated from Gaza and resettled in other countries, including Egypt and Jordan, while the U.S. takes control of the area from Israel.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty communicated with representatives from 11 Arab nations to emphasize the Arab position on the Palestinian cause. The Arab bloc has firmly rejected any displacement of Palestinians, affirming their support for a two-state solution that envisions a separate Palestinian state alongside Israel. The nations involved believe that such a relocation would violate international law, undermine Palestinian rights, and destabilize the region.
Egypt’s stance contrasts with Trump’s plan, which includes the idea of transforming Gaza into a “Riviera of the Middle East” after resettling Palestinians. Egypt and its Arab partners view the plan as a threat to peace and security in the region, especially after the destruction of Gaza during Israel’s military response to Hamas’ attacks in October 2023.
Rather than supporting the displacement proposal, Egypt is focusing on rebuilding Gaza and addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict. Despite differing views on how to proceed, Egyptian security sources confirmed a unified rejection of Trump’s plan across the presidency, military, and intelligence agencies.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has vowed that Egyptians would strongly oppose the resettlement of Palestinians, citing widespread public sentiment against such a proposal. Egypt, a key U.S. ally in the region, played a critical role in brokering the ceasefire between Gaza and Israel in collaboration with Qatar and the U.S.
