Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed Cairo’s readiness to share its counter-terrorism expertise with Mali during a joint press conference with Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop on Sunday. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Mali’s efforts to restore security and territorial control amid ongoing threats from extremist groups.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry highlighted Egypt’s multidimensional strategy to combat terrorism, combining security, social, and economic measures. Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to bolstering Mali’s institutional capacities through initiatives such as training programs by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and scholarships at Al-Azhar University and other Egyptian institutions.
Key topics included creating job opportunities for youth, countering extremist ideologies, and halting the supply chains of terrorist organizations. The ministers also discussed political and security challenges in West Africa and the Horn of Africa, along with regional stability and Egypt’s water security concerns.
Diop praised Egypt’s pivotal role in fostering peace in Africa and the Middle East and its support for Mali’s sovereignty at international platforms. Both sides emphasized strengthening economic ties and encouraging Egyptian investments in Mali, particularly in health, infrastructure, and renewable energy sectors.
The meeting underscored enhanced cooperation to address shared challenges and promote regional peace and stability.
