Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have strongly rejected any efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians or undermine their cause. This declaration came following high-level talks on Thursday during the 11th Summit of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation, which took place in Egypt’s new administrative capital.
During their discussions, the two leaders explored ways to restore peace and stability to Palestinian territories, with a particular focus on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Al-Sisi and Abbas reviewed Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to facilitate a ceasefire, as well as the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which has been devastated by months of violence. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to end the bloodshed and provide relief to the region’s suffering population.
The two presidents also condemned Israel’s persistent violations in the West Bank, with both reaffirming that the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem are integral parts of the Palestinian state. Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their rights, emphasizing Egypt’s active role in working toward the creation of an independent Palestinian state. He underscored that this future state should be based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem serving as its capital.
Abbas, in turn, praised Egypt’s pivotal role in securing a ceasefire in Gaza, acknowledging the country’s historical contribution to the Palestinian cause. He expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s long-standing support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, noting the vital role Egypt continues to play in advocating for peace and justice in the region.
This reaffirmation of shared goals highlights the enduring partnership between Egypt and Palestine in the quest for a lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to diplomatic solutions, with Egypt continuing to be a key player in facilitating dialogue and working toward a just peace.
