According to Egypt’s state television, Al Qahera, Egypt and Qatar are working diligently to salvage the fragile Gaza ceasefire agreement. The efforts come after tensions escalated over the weekend after Hamas announced it would set back the release of more Israeli hostages, accusing Israel of violating the terms of the ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Palestinians that “all hell will break loose” if the Israeli hostages are not released by Saturday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also threatened to resume intense fighting if Hamas fails to meet the deadline.
Egyptian sources said Qatar and Egypt are both in active talks with Hamas and Israel to prevent the collapse of the ceasefire and ensure its full implementation. A Hamas delegation has arrived in Cairo to continue these critical negotiations.
The ceasefire, brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the USA, started on January 19 after more than a year of diplomatic efforts. The ongoing war in Gaza has killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, according to local officials.
