Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk held discussions with his Senegalese and Somali counterparts during the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit on Agricultural Development in Kampala, Uganda. The meetings aimed to bolster cooperation in sustainable farming, agricultural trade, and resource management.
In talks with Senegalese Minister Mabouba Diagne, the two officials highlighted their countries’ long-standing ties and agreed to enhance collaboration on seed production. Senegal is seeking Egypt’s support to develop high-yield crops such as wheat, maize, and rice. Discussions also covered joint initiatives like grain storage facilities and fertilizer imports, supported by the African Development Bank.
During a separate meeting with Somali Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir, Farouk emphasized Egypt’s willingness to share expertise in water management, pest control, and crop productivity. Plans include sending Egyptian experts to Somalia for training programs and providing technical assistance, alongside efforts to boost trade in agricultural products between the two nations.
These initiatives aim to strengthen regional agricultural ties and promote sustainable development across Africa.
