Egypt has announced that it will host an emergency summit of Arab nations on February 27 to address the escalating situation in the Palestinian territories, the country’s foreign ministry confirmed on Sunday.
The summit comes amid growing regional opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan while placing the coastal territory under American control. According to Egypt’s statement, the meeting was convened after high-level consultations with Arab countries, including Palestine, which formally requested the summit. Coordination also took place with Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League.
Opposition to Forced Displacement
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has been engaging with regional counterparts, including officials from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, to reinforce opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians. Egypt has consistently rejected any attempts to alter Gaza’s demographic structure or remove Palestinians from their land.
Trump’s proposal, which includes placing Gaza under U.S. administration and transforming it into the “Riviera of the Middle East” after resettling its residents elsewhere, has drawn widespread condemnation. Arab nations have strongly opposed the plan, reiterating their support for a two-state solution that ensures an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.
