Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty visited Port Sudan on Tuesday, carrying a message from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairperson, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. This visit marks the first by an Egyptian foreign minister since the Sudanese conflict began in April 2023.
During discussions, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s solidarity with Sudan and reiterated its commitment to Sudan’s security, stability, and territorial integrity. He conveyed President Al-Sisi’s dedication to strengthening historic ties and fostering peace in Sudan.
Abdelatty also called for an immediate ceasefire and greater cooperation with international organizations to facilitate humanitarian aid. Talks with his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Youssef Al-Sharif, included water security as both nations share downstream Nile River rights. The discussions highlighted Egypt’s efforts to restore Sudan’s membership in the African Union.
Additionally, Abdelatty engaged with Sudanese officials, business representatives, and civil society groups, emphasizing economic cooperation and mutual development. Egypt reaffirmed its support for Sudan’s institutions amidst ongoing efforts to end the conflict that has caused significant casualties since its outbreak.
