Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati held talks on the sidelines of the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh on Monday, focusing on critical efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and reinforce the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
In a statement following their meeting, the Egyptian Presidency emphasized the importance of continued diplomatic engagement with international and regional partners to halt the ongoing violence. President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s strong support for Lebanon, affirming its sovereignty and territorial integrity amid the escalating conflict. He also condemned the Israeli military actions, both in Lebanon and Palestinian territories, stressing Egypt’s firm rejection of such aggression.
Sisi further highlighted the crucial role of the international community in de-escalating the situation, warning that the conflict could spill over into a regional war with devastating consequences for the region’s future.
Prime Minister Mikati expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s unwavering support and praised Cairo’s diplomatic efforts aimed at securing peace and stability across the region. Mikati also underscored the ongoing importance of cooperation between Lebanon and Egypt to achieve long-term solutions.
In response to the ongoing crisis, Egypt has delivered several aid shipments to Lebanon, standing in solidarity with the Lebanese people as the conflict continues to escalate.
During his speech at the summit, President Sisi called for a ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, reinforcing Egypt’s consistent stance on immediate action to end hostilities in both regions.
