President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi convened a high-level meeting on Sunday to assess progress on pivotal energy sector initiatives. The session brought together Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat, and Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy, as the government advances efforts to secure a sustainable energy supply and bolster national development.
The discussions emphasized measures to ensure uninterrupted gas and petroleum supplies to the national electricity grid, aiming for stability across the country. Plans to scale up domestic petroleum production, integrate newly discovered wells, and intensify exploration activities in land and maritime zones were also reviewed.
President El-Sisi underscored the importance of accelerating renewable energy projects to diversify energy sources and expand the capacity of the electricity grid. He called for improvements to the management of the national gas network to guarantee a steady supply for power generation, industrial operations, and public services.
Among the key projects discussed was the Dabaa nuclear power plant, hailed as a cornerstone of Egypt’s integrated energy strategy. President El-Sisi highlighted the project’s critical role in diversifying energy sources and enhancing electricity services. He stressed the need for strict adherence to timelines and the preparation of skilled professionals for the plant’s operation and maintenance.
The meeting also covered the Egypt-Saudi Arabia electricity interconnection project, which aims to enhance energy stability and optimize power generation during peak demand. The president described the initiative as a benchmark for future regional energy collaborations and called for close monitoring to ensure its success.
President El-Sisi concluded by urging swift action on all energy projects, emphasizing their role in driving national progress. He directed government officials to adopt advanced technologies to modernize the electricity grid, improve efficiency, and reduce energy losses.
