President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Oslo on Sunday for the second leg of his European tour, following a two-day visit to Denmark. His trip aims to bolster Egypt’s diplomatic and economic relations with Norway and Denmark, marking a significant milestone in Egypt’s engagement with Europe.
In Norway, President Sisi is scheduled to meet with King Harald V, Prime Minister Erna Solberg, and members of the Storting (Norwegian Parliament), as well as leaders of Norwegian businesses operating in Egypt. The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of key cooperation agreements, further cementing the partnership between the two nations.
The visit to Norway comes just a day after President Sisi and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen signed a landmark declaration establishing a strategic partnership between Egypt and Denmark. The agreement is set to enhance bilateral cooperation in a range of sectors, including maritime transport, energy transition, health, scientific research, investment, agriculture, tourism, information technology, and efforts to combat illegal migration, terrorism, and poverty.
Sisi’s diplomatic activities in Denmark included meetings with the Danish royal family, parliament officials, and business leaders, including those from A.P. Moller-Maersk and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. This marks the first visit by an Egyptian president to Denmark since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1922.
The president’s European tour will conclude in Dublin, Ireland, where he is scheduled to meet with President Michael D. Higgins and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar to discuss deepening cooperation and enhancing coordination on global issues and regional challenges.
