President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has firmly rejected any plans to displace Palestinians from Gaza, warning that such a move would be an “act of injustice” and a direct threat to Egypt’s national security.
Speaking during a joint press conference with Kenyan President William Ruto on Wednesday, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to a two-state solution as the only viable path to peace between Israel and Palestine. His comments came in response to a recent statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested that Egypt and Jordan should accept displaced Palestinians from Gaza, which has been devastated by prolonged Israeli bombardment.
Sisi made it clear that Egypt will not support or allow any forced relocation of Palestinians, emphasizing that the Egyptian people would strongly oppose such a move. “If I asked the Egyptian people about this, they would take to the streets in rejection,” he stated.
Regional and International Response
The displacement of Palestinians remains a highly sensitive issue in the Arab world, with regional leaders consistently rejecting any efforts to remove Palestinians from their homeland. Since the escalation of the Gaza war in October 2023, Egypt and Jordan have repeatedly dismissed any suggestion that they should absorb displaced Palestinians.
Both countries’ foreign ministries recently reaffirmed their stance, rejecting Trump’s proposal and insisting that any lasting solution must be based on international law and Palestinian self-determination.
While Trump initially announced plans to discuss the matter directly with Sisi, the conversation was instead held between U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio and Egypt’s foreign minister, with no mention of the resettlement plan.
Egypt continues to play a key role in regional diplomacy, working with international partners to push for a ceasefire and a negotiated solution to the conflict. However, Sisi’s firm stance signals that Egypt will not compromise on its national security or support any efforts that undermine Palestinian sovereignty.
