Eritrea has freed three Azerbaijani-flagged vessels, and their crew members were held from November 7, 2024, to the date of their release on March 24, 2025.
The ships, which were said to have entered Eritrean waters as a result of adverse weather as well as while en route to Abu Dhabi via the Suez Canal, experienced a limbo for months before their diplomatic release.
Based on the release information revealed by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry; the ships-CMS Pahlian, CMS İgid and CMS-3 are the ships that are operated by the authorized Azerbaijani branch of Caspian Marine Services B.V.
It was reported that the crew members received consular support through the Azerbaijan diplomatic mission in Ethiopia.
The Azerbaijani side also expressed appreciation to the Embassy of Türkiye in Eritrea for their assistance in liberating the crew.
Eritrean authorities have not given any official statement about the detention, but they drew attention to the significance of obeying maritime boundaries.
This conflict was resolved with the use of diplomatic dialogue that showed the strong influence of such incidents.
