An outbreak of Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) in Ethiopia’s Gambella Region has caused nine deaths and infected 136 people across four districts in Nuer Zone, according to health officials.
Authorities reported that the affected areas include Akobo, Wantawo, Makuey, and Lare districts. The disease had also been reported in neighboring South Sudan before spreading to Gambella.
Currently, 31 patients are receiving treatment, while 96 have recovered. Medical teams with essential supplies have been sent to the impacted districts to contain the outbreak.
Health officials have urged residents to improve hygiene, treat drinking water through purification or boiling, and practice regular handwashing to prevent further infections.
