A high-level Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev visited Ethiopia to deepen political, economic, and humanitarian collaboration between the two nations. The visit emphasized expanding partnerships across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, and education.
The delegation held extensive talks with senior Ethiopian officials, including Alem Tsehay Paulos, Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos, Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe, and Agriculture Minister Girme Amente. They also engaged with leaders from the Ethiopian Investment Commission and explored industrial parks and infrastructure projects, focusing on economic development opportunities.
This visit builds on the momentum established during Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie’s recent meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the COP29 Leaders’ Summit in Baku. Both sides agreed to establish legal frameworks, create working groups, and organize trade missions and business forums to enhance cooperation.
Adopting the “ASAN Service” Model
A significant milestone in the partnership is Ethiopia’s adoption of Azerbaijan’s “ASAN service” model, a globally recognized innovation in citizen services, which underscores the growing bilateral relationship.
The visit also included the third round of political consultations chaired by Yalchin Rafiyev and Ethiopian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mesganu Arga. Discussions covered cooperation within the UN, Non-Aligned Movement, and other international platforms, highlighting shared global priorities.
The Azerbaijani delegation included officials from various sectors, such as the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture, Azerbaijan Investment Holding, and SOCAR. This multi-sectoral representation reinforced Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering a comprehensive and long-term partnership with Ethiopia.
The visit marked a pivotal step in enhancing ties and unlocking new opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.
