Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s meetings with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping, highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with China. Ethiopia’s full membership in BRICS in January marked a pivotal moment in their global collaboration.
China’s investments in Ethiopia, totaling over $8.5 billion across 3,300 projects, have bolstered infrastructure, manufacturing, and industrial park development. Notable projects include Ethiopia’s Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone and the growing presence of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, supporting Ethiopia’s green energy transition.
China and Ethiopia aim to deepen cooperation in agriculture, space technology, and green development, with Ethiopian coffee and Chinese tea symbolizing their cultural bond. As Ethiopia continues its modernization efforts, China remains a steadfast partner in its development journey.
