Ethiopia has welcomed over 100 competitors from 60 countries for the International Quran and Azan Competition, which began on January 29, 2025. This five-day event marks the second edition of the prestigious competition, organized by the Zayd Ibn Thabit Qur’an Association and the Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs.
The event highlights Ethiopia’s growing capacity to host international gatherings, with a 40% increase in tourism over the last five years. It also underscores the nation’s expanding tourism infrastructure, which has been pivotal in attracting global events and visitors.
Dr. Nuredin Qasim, president of the Zayd Ibn Thabit Qur’an Association, revealed that Ethiopia is represented by two male and one female contestant. The competition, which will be held in Addis Ababa, not only focuses on religious excellence but also offers participants the chance to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage.
The event’s timing coincides with Ethiopia’s expanding role as a hub for international conferences and competitions, supported by recent renovations and infrastructure improvements aimed at boosting the country’s tourism industry.
In addition to competing, international guests will have the opportunity to visit Ethiopia’s major tourist attractions during their stay, further enhancing cultural exchange.
Ethiopia’s significant rise in global tourism, driven by both infrastructural developments and the increasing number of international events, is positioning the country as a key destination for travelers and global gatherings alike.
