The European Union (EU) has pledged a $41 million (€40 million) aid package to bolster humanitarian efforts in Ethiopia, targeting communities affected by conflict, climate change, and health crises.
In a statement released on Thursday, the European Commission highlighted the significant challenges facing Ethiopia, including the displacement of thousands due to internal conflicts and an influx of refugees from neighboring countries like Sudan.
The funds will be directed primarily toward supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) within Ethiopia and assisting refugees who have sought safety in the country.
This latest commitment brings the total EU humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia since 2020 to over €436.5 million, reinforcing the bloc’s ongoing efforts to address urgent needs in the region.
