Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, met with Türkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Burhanettin Duran, in Addis Ababa to discuss preparations for upcoming technical negotiations under the Ankara Declaration. The two officials also exchanged views on regional and bilateral matters.
A statement seen by The Wall Africa Journal from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that discussions focused on finalizing the next steps in the agreement, which was facilitated by Türkiye between Ethiopia and Somalia. Timothewos expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s mediation and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to fully implementing the declaration.
The Ankara Declaration, signed in December, has played a key role in reducing tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia, fostering cooperation between the two nations. The technical negotiations are expected to be concluded this month.
Duran’s visit to Ethiopia follows his recent trip to Sudan, where he met with Sudanese officials to discuss Türkiye’s mediation proposal regarding Sudan-UAE relations.
