Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, met Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh during a courtesy visit aimed at reinforcing ties between the two nations. Discussions focused on enhancing their longstanding friendship, addressing regional peace, and advancing collaboration on key issues outlined in the recent Ethio-Djibouti Joint Ministerial Commission meeting.
Timothewos also held talks with Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf earlier in the day. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and fostering cooperation on shared priorities.
The visit follows recent developments, including a peace agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia signed in Ankara and the simultaneous visits of Somali leaders to Eritrea and Djibouti. Analysts suggest this could heighten tensions with neighboring countries, including Djibouti, Eritrea, and Egypt, as regional dynamics shift.
