Explosions at a rally organized by M23 rebels in Bukavu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, resulted in the deaths of 11 people and left 65 others injured. Corneille Nangaa, the leader of the rebel alliance that includes M23, confirmed the incident during a press conference on Thursday.
Nangaa stated that the grenades used in the attack were of the same type reportedly used by Burundi’s military in Congo.
A medical source also said 65 people were being treated for injuries at Bukavu’s general hospital. Nangaa said that he was not wounded and other senior members of the rebel grouping were safe.
