A curfew has been enacted in En Nuhud, West Kordofan, following violent clashes on Monday that resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals, including a police officer.
The unrest began when members of the Reserve Forces, a militia aligned with the army, attempted to seize a customs police vehicle. The commander of the Reserve Forces, Hamad al-Safi Hamad, stated they were following directives from a state security committee, which ordered them to mobilize government vehicles for the ongoing conflict against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Police intervened to reclaim the vehicle, leading to a violent confrontation at the Reserve Forces headquarters. This exchange resulted in the fatalities of two militia leaders and the police officer, as detailed by Hamad in a recorded statement.
The Reserve Forces, primarily composed of members from the Hamar tribe, have been actively fighting alongside the army against the RSF in the region. Hamad accused security forces of attempting to “create chaos” in En Nuhud, which has emerged as the temporary capital of West Kordofan since the army lost control of Babanusa.
While the RSF has dominance over most of West Kordofan, both En Nuhud and the army’s key base in Babanusa remain under military control.
