A devastating road accident claimed five lives and left six others injured on Thursday, October 31, along the Harare-Bulawayo Road in Harare, Zimbabwe.
In an official statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reported that a kombi carrying an unknown number of passengers collided with a fuel tanker, which was unoccupied aside from the driver. According to Commissioner Nyathi, the kombi turned right onto Bulawayo Road, directly into the path of the oncoming fuel tanker.
The deceased victims’ bodies have been transported to hospital mortuary, while the injured passengers are receiving treatment at the same hospital. The identities of the five deceased have not yet been confirmed.
Commissioner Nyathi stated that a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident and identify the victims. He urged motorists to follow road rules and avoid speeding to reduce road incidents and improve safety across Zimbabwe’s roads.
