Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed has stated that Kenya’s new national team coach will be announced within a week.
The position, which was previously held by Turkish coach Engin Firat, has been the subject of much speculation regarding who will take over. Engin Firat resigned in December 2024.
It is reported that the South African legend Benni McCarthy is the preferred candidate for the job. Hussein Mohammed made the following statement regarding the new coach:
“FKF is looking for a substantive coach and a competent technical bench to achieve our objectives.”
“It is an ongoing process, which is why the current technical bench was appointed on an interim basis. We will provide an update on the new coach in a week or so after tying up the loose ends.”
Currently, the national team is being temporarily managed by Kimanzi. It remains unclear whether the new coach will take charge in time for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Over 20 candidates have reportedly applied for the Harambee Stars new national team coach position.
