Football legends like Abedi Pele, Amanda Dlamini, and Asamoah Gyan will mentor young players at the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship.
The third edition of the tournament will be held in Accra, Ghana, from April 23-26, 2025. The teams that passed the regional qualifiers, along with host nation Ghana, will compete for the African championship title.
CAF has invited seven African football legends to support young players and provide mentorship during the tournament. Among the invited legends are Clementine Toure (Ivory Coast), Robert Kidiaba (DR Congo), Pele, Gyan, Adjoa Bayor (all from Ghana), Dlamini (South Africa), and Kareem Haggui (Tunisia).
These legends will conduct various training sessions, participate in workshops, and provide encouragement before and after the matches. Gyan, Dlamini, and Kidiaba had also supported the 2022 and 2024 editions of the tournament in the same mentoring capacity.
Gyan Asamoah spoke about the tournament, saying,
“The CAF African Schools Football Championship is undoubtedly one of CAF’s most critical competitions that supports football development. African football has scaled to great heights in recent years thanks to CAF’s efforts to develop African football.
“I am glad to see that such progress is supported by a strong foundation in this tournament, which is not only a launch pad for talent, but a unique gathering of talented youngsters for an opportunity to play competitive international football that is supported by education.”
These legendary players will also be present at the official draw, which will take place on Monday, April 21.
