Dr. Yatta Sackie Wapoe, former Montserrado County Health Officer, has launched a two-day free medical outreach in Duazon, Margibi County, providing essential healthcare services to over 200 residents. The initiative, part of her 50th birthday celebration, aims to offer medical screenings, treatments, and 20 life-changing surgeries to underprivileged community members.
Organized in collaboration with Harvest Intercontinental Ministries Unlimited and its Houston, Texas branch, the outreach includes screenings for malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and cervical cancer, along with vaccinations for young girls. Despite the short preparation time, the initiative has received strong support from local and international donors.
Dr. Wapoe emphasized her commitment to giving back to the community, noting that the outreach was inspired by a scheduled medical mission from the Houston church. She mobilized a team of volunteer doctors and surgeons to conduct specialized procedures, making critical healthcare services accessible to those in need.
Medical professionals involved in the project highlighted the financial burden of surgical care in Africa and praised the outreach for addressing this gap. Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude, with many viewing it as a rare opportunity to receive necessary medical attention.
Bishop S. Musa Kofe, a key organizer, described the initiative as a blend of medical aid and spiritual outreach, aiming to uplift both the physical and spiritual well-being of the community. With a budget of $15,000, organizers hope to extend services if additional funding is secured. Dr. Wapoe reaffirmed her dedication to humanitarian work, stating that giving back is her life’s calling.
