However, the influencer was released on bail, requiring a payment of Sh30,000 in cash.
Social media influencer Francis Gaitho has been charged with spreading false information, alleging that the DCI apprehended the wrong individual as the main suspect in the Kware killings.
Francis Nganga Gaitho stands accused of intentionally disseminating this misinformation on July 19, 2024, via his social media account.
The prosecution claims that Gaitho wrote and shared this information with the intent for it to be perceived as true and acted upon accordingly.
Gaitho faced an additional charge on the same occasion, alleging that he knowingly or should have known that his false publication via his X account about an innocent Kenyan in connection with the Kware killings could lead to the person’s apprehension, violence against them, or damage to their property. He pleaded not guilty to these charges before Milimani senior principal magistrate Robinson Ondieki and requested lenient bail terms.
Gaitho’s lawyer argued in court that he posed no flight risk, having been arrested at his residence. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), however, requested that Gaitho surrender his passport to the court.
The magistrate granted Gaitho bail of Sh30,000 in cash. The case is scheduled for mention on August 1st.
