Members of the Gambia-Turkey Business Council recently met with President Adama Barrow to discuss investment and trade opportunities between their countries. They sought the president’s support in creating a favorable environment for Turkish investors and in developing exportable products from The Gambia.
President Barrow encouraged the Council to collaborate with the Ministry of Trade and other stakeholders to identify potential investors. He also advised focusing on manufacturing raw materials into finished products instead of just exporting the raw materials.
The president outlined his administration’s plan to invest in electricity infrastructure to ensure universal access by the end of 2025.
Fatou Senghore mentioned that their visit was intended to enhance the Gambia-Turkey relationship. She said, “We are here to present the Council and discuss our mission and its potential benefits for the country.”
Council member Ali Hydara highlighted the importance of the private sector in driving economic growth and creating jobs, stating that the government alone can not achieve these objectives. He emphasized, “The government also needs the support of the private sector.”
Hydara also shared their objective of attracting Turkish investors to set up factories in Gambia, which would add significant value to the economy.
