A Ghanaian worker, Stephen Agordotse, has been remanded in police custody by the Accra Chief Magistrate’s Court while awaiting extradition to Nigeria for alleged theft.
Agordotse, who is an Operations Manager at Discovery Logistics and E-Commerce Service in Lagos, is accused of stealing his employer’s vehicle, electronic devices and cash worth 8.76 million Naira.
His arrest led to his detention by the Accra Central Police Command following an INTERPOL alert from Abuja. The court ruled against his release on bail citing concerns that he may not appear in future proceedings.
“Given the steps taken to extradite the defendant to Nigeria for trial, there is a risk that he may not appear in court if he is released,” the judge said.
Agordotse told the court that he has been remanded in custody for one month. However, the prosecutor’s office confirmed that all legal processes regarding his extradition have been completed and requested an early date for the next hearing.
The case was adjourned until March 12, when other procedures regarding his extradition will be carried out.
