As Ghana nears its highly anticipated 2024 elections, the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are preparing to hold their final campaign rallies in the capital, Accra, on Thursday, December 5, just two days before the elections. These rallies will serve as a last push for both parties as they seek to solidify support in what is expected to be one of the closest elections in the country’s history.
NDC’s “Reset Ghana” Rally at Zurak Park
The NDC will hold its final rally at Zurak Park in Madina, under the theme “Resetting Ghana – Let’s Finish Strong.” Set for 12 pm, the event will be headlined by top party figures, including the party’s National Communications Officer, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, who described the rally as a defining moment for the campaign.
In his statement, Gyamfi emphasized the rally’s importance in rallying the party’s base and underscoring their vision for Ghana’s future. “This event will energize our supporters and push our message of addressing economic challenges, combating corruption, and offering a fresh start under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama,” he said.
The NDC is focusing its message on providing a new direction for Ghana, particularly in terms of tackling economic difficulties and creating an environment free of corruption.
NPP’s “Possibilities Victory Rally” at UG Sports Directorate Park
At the same time, the NPP will host its “Possibilities Victory Rally” at the UG Sports Directorate Park, located opposite the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The rally will celebrate the accomplishments of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration while outlining the future plans of the party under presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Key political figures, including President Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s vice-presidential candidate, will be in attendance.
The NPP’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, described the rally as a “historic programme” aimed at galvanizing supporters and securing the votes of undecided citizens. The party will highlight its achievements in economic management, infrastructure development, and social policies as part of its pitch for a third consecutive term in office.
A Pivotal Day for Ghana’s Political Landscape
The decision to hold both parties’ final rallies in Accra on the same day underscores the high stakes of the 2024 election. Political analysts view the simultaneous events as crucial opportunities for both parties to make a strong final appeal to voters in the Greater Accra Region, widely regarded as a key battleground in the election.
With the election drawing closer, these rallies are expected to dominate media coverage and could prove decisive in shaping the outcome of the December 7 vote. Economic challenges, governance, and youth empowerment are expected to be at the forefront of voter concerns, making these rallies a critical moment for the NDC and NPP to connect with voters on key issues.
The 2024 elections are set to be among the most closely contested in Ghana’s history, with both major parties putting forward distinct visions for the country’s future. As the final rallies unfold, the nation will be closely watching to see which party can rally its supporters and sway undecided voters ahead of the polls.
